Zero-click is a search in which the user no longer visits a website because the answer is already in the search interface. With classic search engines this was featured snippets and knowledge panels; with AI systems it is the norm. The user asks a question, receives a direct, summarised answer and is satisfied: "zero-click satisfaction".

## How does zero-click change search?

The shift can be summed up in three contrasts. The short, concise search query becomes a detailed prompt. The result list of "ten blue links" becomes a direct, summarised answer. And the website visit becomes satisfaction without a click. The decision about which providers a user considers at all is therefore made before the first contact with a website, based on what the AI names.

## Why does zero-click matter for AI visibility?

Because traffic loses its meaning as a measure of success. A brand can be present in AI answers without a single visit resulting from it, and a brand can have traffic while it is missing from the decisive answers. If you keep measuring AI visibility by clicks, you do not see the shift. The goal becomes a different one: not to win the visit, but to appear in the answer when the question is asked, as a [mention](https://www.codaai.ai/en/knowledge/geo-glossary/mention/) or [citation](https://www.codaai.ai/en/knowledge/geo-glossary/citation/).

## What does this mean for your website?

Stop assessing your website only as a destination for visits and treat it as a source for answers. Expect traffic growth for existing content to stagnate or decline, even if impressions rise. Replace the click count as your lead metric with the [Share of AI Search](https://www.codaai.ai/en/knowledge/geo-glossary/share-of-ai-search/) over a fixed prompt set: your brand's share of the answers, compared with competitors, over time.
